Let there be light and mosquito screens!

First in no way am I comparing this weeks work of lighting up the medical clinic to God creating the Sun-just thought I should clarify that. Lights on in the building at early dusk I am currently back in Singida in the comfort of my hotel room and real shower enjoying a few days in which I hope this old back of mine will straighten back out.  Nothing like being curled up in the outer edges of the attic space where there is normally only about 2 feet between ceiling and roof.  Especially since it got hot this week finally.  Normally back home I would relax in a tub of hot water to loosen the muscles back up especially where I had the back surgery.  While I am blessed to have more here than most I am still not quite so blessed as I was at home and a week like this reminds of some of that. But onto the week at hand.  When I got to site I was informed the power had quite a day or so after I left the site last weekend.  A quick check and I found out several of the wires had come loo

So one of the things most people find shocking about our medical clinic is that it has real electricity.  It did have a solar panel and battery installed four to five years ago but it was not a system that was matched up or sized to the need.  Add to that its age and lack of working charge controller and you have a system that normally is sounding more alarms than solving problems.  In fact the inverter has spent most of every day with the fault alarm going off. One of the exciting things this quarter is the money to put in a proper solar power generation system for the medical clinic. Barnabas Bear inspects the solar panels This included two each 50 Watt Panels and two each 100 Ah Batteries a charge controller and DC/AC Inverter for the solar power generation part of the project.  One thing we were doing this time was only one part of the system would be running off AC power-the lab equipment and cell phone chargers. The lighting system would all be DC with LED lamps.  That

Some of you who follow my Facebook postings know I suffered a bit the other weekend with stomach issues that also hit me this last weekend.  I am going to use that as a convenient excuse why I did not get to this posting earlier, but in reality I have just struggled with what to say about these last two weeks so I am doing another clearing house of interesting (to me at least) tidbits.  I promise there should be something in here for everyone. Zachariah is the second from the left Family members of the guest of honor wear a flower necklace Let's start with Birthday Parties.  Young Zachariah (the doctor's son who follows me around) had a birthday a couple of trips ago and I have been planning to tell you about that.  I was invited to the celebration mainly because the photographer only had one roll of film.  (For those only born in the digital age we used to have to buy rolls of film and put them in our cameras that normally only took 24 photos and then had to take
