Weekly photo contest, hiring a teacher and finally over the flu

Photo A Photo B Photo C Photo D Photo E This week I had several photos I liked so I am going to let you choose the best.  Please vote so I know what kind of photos you like best. Finally, after about 5 weeks I can finally say I feel like I have kicked all the hanging on symptoms and sore throat associated with the flu.   It is nice to eat something without feeling like I am ripping the scab off an open wound in my throat.   I appreciate everyone’s prayers, well wishes and thoughts while I was sick. This last week I started to get my life back in order around here.   I scrubbed every inch of the house down as I got ready to switch houses with the headmaster and his family for two weeks while I have visitors from the USA.   So everything I had worked up into organized luggage had to be taken out to switch up to luggage prepared to live in another house.   That includes all my clothes and food I have so I can cook in the other house. Thank you to everyone who has been concerned for my health and praying.  The affects of the flu are gone except for a nagging sore throat, dry cough that is most likely being exacerbated by the constant cooking fire smoke and dust in the air.  I had a good week at the school. The school year is off to a rocking start.  We have 94 students registered which is 14 more than our goal for a good registration.  We are experiencing some growing pains these first couple of weeks but are getting it all figured out.  This was not helped by the teacher that called in sick quitting this week to get married without giving anyone a heads up.  I am going to save the fun of hiring a new teacher for another week. For "Reading with Barnabas" this week we had one of the youth reading a story for us.  I had to put it off a week to pump up the sound a little bit in my video editor.  My hearing has become horrible during my five years in Tanzania, but when the kids tell me they cannot hear

Conversations with Barnabas: Meet Mery

Before I get started, I wanted to say thank you to everyone who wished me well after last week's blog.  My fever finally broke for good that Monday night.  I have been coughing it all up out of the deep recess of my lungs this week.  My throat is still very raw feeling and I am tired, but was able to help all week fill in for the teacher that was sick and proctored tests all day.  Due to the sluggish mental attitude, I am behind on my creative aspects of my job.  So I will go back to an old standby and introduce one of our student's via the Conversations with Barnabas program. This week I meet Mery's dad when he stopped by the school to meet with our Head Teacher (principal). He works at the sugar plantation that I ride through to get to our school each week after my day in town.  This means Mery and her family are not the traditional Maasai that surround our school.   Mery is one of those kids that would be any teacher's bright spot.  She is quick to smile.  Even
