Men's day at Kiruani TAG church

So, this last Sunday was Men’s day at Kiruani TAG.  It seems the men were jealous the women got their own day, so they wanted one too (don’t know that just assuming).  The head teacher, Fredy, at the school was delivering the sermon and I had to do all the typing and printing for the men participating.  Some differences between the Women’s day and the Men’s day.  The men decorated the church with streamers and balloons which were hung so low every time they danced in, they had to lift them over their heads.  In addition, they were flittering about, and my camera kept picking them up as the thing to focus on (smart phone camera not real camera).  The beginning was a little more (not much) disarrayed than the Women’s.  It had also been raining a lot this month, so the solar power system did not have any electricity and they had to delay for 15 minutes while they got a generator and wired it up. This was so they could use the microphones and keyboard.

Thing that were much the same.  They danced in before each part they did in the service and danced out at the end.  They did this for the children’s day, women’s day and now the men’s day.  Now when I say a part of the service, the men introducing themselves was one part that required the dance in and out.  Same guys each time with pretty much the same dance.  They had fewer parts than the women did.  I think they had 6 parts and the women had 14.  The men, women and children services all included giving a gift to the pastor.  It appears the children give the best gifts.

Interestingly, Fredy always tells me how much he likes how I keep things on a short timetable.  Basically, I keep my part of the sermon to 15 minutes, so it ends up being about 25 with the translation added in.  He always talks about how too many guest leaders of the service speak for an hour or more.  He clocked in at 1 hour 10 minutes.

Our school was well represented with two teachers and the head teacher participating in the service.  Everyone here really enjoys these special days and there is a lot of laughter and excited dancing throughout.  Fredy did a good job in his presentation.  Even though the service was over 3 hours it was fun.
