Blessed

It is hard to believe that just over a year ago, I found out there may be a need for a full time missionary with Full Dimension Ministry in Tanzania.  A lot has happened since that moment. From being trained as a United Methodist Individual Volunteer Missionary, to our first public announcement in April 2013 at the annual banquet.  Just in the month of December I topped out on my fundraising need and the first third of the truck money needed was raised.  

 Pastor Smoke had a wonderful message today from the sermon on the mount talking about those who are blessed.  It is a word I have used a lot lately as I write thank you notes.  I have felt it too!  The wonderful support of my extended church family to get me funded so quickly.  The encouragement of my friends has been such a great boost to my life.  

 If all of this was not enough to make me feel completely assured that I was on the right path to do what God wants me to do, the send off service was so amazing I feel even more ready to go.  The attendance, the words of encouragement and thanks, the chance to talk to everyone, and the prayers for me, my family and the people of Tanzania.  

 So thank you to all, everyone who has prayed, encouraged, supported or just shook my hand to send me on my way.  Asante Tembe-Thank you an Elephant.  I look forward to what happens next and what God has in store for me.  Tuesday is coming and I am ready because you helped me answer God's call every step of the way.

Water/Maji

The kids getting ready for the water to flow In the USA we really don’t think that much about water.   I realize if you are dealing with a flood you think about non-stop.   But for most of us it really is not something we think about until we get the bill every month.    You go to the faucet and turn it on.   The biggest problem most people have now is figuring out where the sweet spot on the hands-free sensor is to get and keep the water running.   The new controls wired in What you don’t have to worry about is how far you must walk to get water, or how far you must drive your cattle to get water.   You don’t think about getting your donkeys ready to carry a bunch of water jugs for you.   When you want to do laundry, you most likely go to a machine in your house and it is already connected to the water for you.   You don’t have to carry your laundry to the water and wash it in front of everybody else in the village.   I have said “you” a lot in all this, but I mean m

You travel all the way to Tanzania you should do a safari

This is the final installment for the recent mission team visit.  Every team that comes over should in fact do a safari because it is a part of the overall experience that is traveling to Tanzania.  In the past I have always recommended going to Ngorongoro for a one day trip and it is still an excellent place to go.  However, it is more expensive than most of the other trips because they charge per person and for the vehicle both and it is one of the most popular safari sites in Tanzania which leads to a lot of people being there.  In fact during the June-August tourist season it is not uncommon to have wait in a vehicle line of 10 or more safari trucks trying to roll their group into picture taking position of the main attractions.  Some times it feels a little more like a zoo than a safari. I have started to recommend Tarangire more often because it is less expensive and the only vehicle crowding issues are at the lunch spots.  They have a great viewing of wildlife with herds
