Why build a school

Getting ready this to do presentations about Tumaini Evangelistic Pre and Primary English Medium School and Blessed2BlessU Ministries, Inc. and I realized that it may help folks to understand why I want to talk about this ministry so much.

Maybe to understand a little of the challenges facing the people in Kiruani when it comes to education might help.  Most folks don't know until they visit that there is a government primary school just 1.5 miles away from ours.  When I visited this site for the first time, my immediate question was "Why are we building a school so close to one that already exists?"  The answer is a collection of reasons.  The first I have mentioned here before.  Primary schools are taught in Kiswahili only and then if a child gets to Secondary school everything is supposed to be taught only in English.  So a child from a non English Medium school is lost.  The second reason is that a majority of the kids cannot pass the exam to advance to Secondary school indicating the education process is not working.  Things like overcrowded classes are a big reason this happens.  Most government schools also do not have meals for the kids.  Government schools may have religion class but do not actively study the Bible, whereas we can do just that with the kids.

Our school is really in the infant stage since we just got our registration last year and this is the first year of primary school classes (Standard 1).  We have 6 classrooms in 3 buildings right now.  But every year we will be adding an additional Standard Class until we have the full slate of Standard 1 through Standard 7.  So we have a lot of work ahead of us and that means a lot of things have to happen.  We need people to hear our story and pray for our school and the community we are serving.  We need to raise funds so we can continue to build needed classrooms, teacher housing, administration buildings and even a dining facility for the kids to eat their meals at.

Our school is in the middle of Maasai tribal areas, which means many of the students we need to be reaching cannot afford tuition.  So we will need to help supplement the tuition the school receives.

What does all this mean, I am looking for every opportunity to talk about this school to any group that wants to hear about it.  Like I said last week, the goal is not always just to seek funding.  One thing I can tell you is that God works in mighty ways when you step out in faith.  I have given talks in the past about some of the short term mission teams that have not gained any funding, but often someone will hear something that strikes a chord.  They tell someone they have heard talk about wanting to do something with a group like ours and they want to go on a trip to visit that ministry.  When I talk to a group, I never know what will come from it.  But I do know that every talk I have given about a ministry like this has lead to something positive.  It is not always in funding, sometimes it is in prayers or visitors and sometimes it is just a lead to another group.

To help with the planning I have created a tab you should see above called Speaking Calendar that should give you dates of events I have scheduled.

If  you need any more reasons to hear about this school maybe one these kids can help you out.
